James Green
Oil Painting and Fine Art
I was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and grew up in rural Bucks County surrounded by abandoned barns, old farmhouse and open fields which influenced the subject material of my art. Always interested in drawing, I took a chance at an art contest in high school and won a partial scholarship to Temple University's Tyler school of Art. Working my way through school with jobs in the construction industry, I eventually sidetracked into a 30-year career operating my own construction company.
However, I never lost my love for painting and built a studio where I could develop my painting style. I was greatly influenced by the colorful palettes of the New Hope and French Impressionists and later by the expressionist style of the Viennese Secessionists.
Since turning my full attention back to art I exhibit in juried shows and galleries including Stover Mill Gallery as an invited artist in a dual exhibition, Phillips Mill in New Hope, Historic Yellow Springs in Chester County, and Wayne Art Center to name a few. I was the featured artist at Tinicum Arts Festival. I have won many art awards and my work is included in many private collections.
Over my career I have instructed painting classes, conducted workshops with demonstrations, and juried art shows.
My work is included in the Bucks County Artist database through the Michener Art Museum.
I live outside of Philadelphia with my artist wife, Betz.
